What a celebration we had for our 2 year anniversary! A morning filled with laughter and joy by doing what we do best, followed by a brilliant performance from Fish4Brains. What a treat to go down to Broad Plain and Riverside Boxing Club again 🥊 It was worth the trip just to enter the Aladdin’s Cave of Boxing memorabilia, and to watch some questionable punches thrown by the group… But what brought us all together was Dennis Stinchcombe MBE, director of the club, as he spoke about his extraordinary life. From humble beginnings in 1974 to present day, the club has given thousands of kids the foundation they need to thrive in life. Over the past 49 years, Dennis has worked hard at keeping the club doors open so that every child is offered the best possible start, no matter what their circumstance. Thank you Dennis for continuing to be such an inspirational, important pillar of our community 🙏

What a brilliant morning we had down at Taunton for our Walkers & Talkers session in partnership with Somerset Cricket Foundation 🏏 We had the pleasure of listening to Dean Headley delve into his illustrious cricketing career. From his county debut in 1991 to his impressive international performances, Dean's journey in the world of cricket has been nothing short of remarkable. Thanks to all who joined us today - nearly a full house!

Faye Dicker from Freelance Mum brought a burst of sunshine to our morning at Lockleaze Sports Centre ✨ With rainbow pom poms and sharpies in hand, we were reminded of the power of coming together and supporting one another. This morning, we were graced by the wit and wisdom of Sir Andy Marsh QPM, CEO at College of Policing and former Chief Constable at Avon and Somerset Constabulary👮‍♂️ With his groundbreaking policies shaping the way forward, it's reassuring to know someone so exceptional is making the big decisions 🚨 Sir Andy illustrated how effective partnerships between law enforcement and the community can create safer environments for everyone 🏡 Once again, another incredible guest speaker giving up their valuable time to enlighten us. We can’t thank you enough ✨

As we soaked up the rays of welcome sunshine, we had the privilege of hearing from Matt Horne, the former Deputy Director of Investigations at the National Crime Agency. Talk about a bright spot in our week! 🌞🔍 With the charm of Q from James Bond, Matt shared some fascinating insights into the world of crime-fighting. Who knew that the secret to catching organised criminals could involve dogs and Stilton cheese? 🐶🧀 Thanks to Matt’s hard work, we can all sleep easy at night, knowing that his former colleagues are out there ensuring our safety. 200 of us had the pleasure of listening to the legendary Paul Randall aka ‘Punky’ reminisce on his footballing career ⚽️ Paul’s witty tales from the Rovers days brought us all even closer together… including Bristol City supporters!

William Goodchild took us on a musical journey this morning reciting his wild adventures in composing for nature documentaries like Chimp Empire and teaming up with the legendary David Attenborough. William sure knows how to strike the right chord! 🎶 And of course we got a photo with the Vitality Blast trophy 🏆 (it would be rude not to!)

Mark Gill from the Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing had us all ears this morning! The interactive game really hit home the challenges faced by the deaf and hard of hearing community. Thank you to Mark and the team for such an informative and engaging talk - a true ear-opener!

No rain, no flowers! ☔️ Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Rebecca Mear, CEO of Voscur who throughout her career has travelled far and wide to make the world a better place 🌎 Chatting all things community, support and development, it was certainly a thought- provoking session that sparked interesting conversation. A huge thank you to Rebecca for taking the time to share your story and the steps taken to build community power 💪 We of course washed this all down with a warming cuppa after a drizzly wander around the fantastic facilities at Lockleaze Sports Centre! Thank you to the team for your wonderful hospitality as always 🫶

Reverend Richard Pendlebury MBE DL, the High Sheriff of Bristol, left us in awe this morning with his passion for making a difference in the community. As a man who has dedicated his life to helping others, Richard has set up numerous charities across Bristol that have touched the lives of thousands of people. One of his first and most impactful charities was Changing Tunes, which provides music-making programmes in prisons to help rehabilitate inmates and give them a new lease of life. What an honour it is to have such a compassionate and inspiring leader in our community 🙏

Dave Grimstead gave us an incredible insight into the valuable work Locate International does - a charity dedicated to finding the missing and naming the unidentified. A light was shone on the volunteers that work tirelessly to find the answers families are hopeful for. Their dedication and commitment to each forgotten case is truly remarkable. Thank you, Dave, for giving up your time this morning to share your passion and the important work of Locate International with us 🙏

We shouldn't complain about the weather today when our guest speaker encountered extreme winds, huge storms and 30ft high waves whilst completing the World's Toughest Row. Hearing how Maddie and her team conquered the epic feat of rowing 3000 miles across the Atlantic was needless to say inspirational. During this mornings talk, Maddie enlightened us on the challenges they faced and shared how the small things in life really do bring us the most joy.

Evelyn Welch MBE took us on a fascinating journey through her Renaissance studies, sharing insights and anecdotes that brought this historical period to life. Evelyn also spoke about her daughter Florence, vocalist of Florence and the Machine. Through her, Evelyn learned the importance of trust and letting go, lessons that have undoubtedly shaped her both personally and professionally. It was a privilege to hear from such a remarkable individual who’s made significant contributions to academia and beyond. What a captivating journey through history!

Ruth Pitter MBE blew us away this morning as she humbly spoke about the inspiring work she’s done to help others. From volunteering for groups like Voscur and the Witness Service, through to creating Bristol theatre group Breathing Fire, which allows people to share their stories through art. Ruth’s kindness and generosity has touched so many lives, it was a privilege to hear just some of her stories.
