About the event

This week’s guest speaker is co-founder of the UK charity Locate International, Dave Grimstead.

Over the last five years Dave led an entirely volunteer organisation providing over 120,000 operational hours in 2023 to support families and police with long-term missing and unidentified people investigations at no cost to them.

Inspired when watching a team of RNLI volunteers responding to a call for help from those in danger at sea, Dave presented an idea at the International Conference Missing Children and Adults at Liverpool University to develop professionally trained volunteers, drawn from the heart of our communities to review unsolved missing and unidentified people investigations.

There are over 13,000 people missing or unidentified for over a year in the UK. This could take over 14,000 working days of valuable police time each year to review. Locate combine community volunteers with police, public and industry resources to provide an independent investigation in the search for answers.

Locate now has a community of over three hundred volunteers aged 18-77, from thirteen countries, speaking thirty-three languages, and fifteen universities who undertake a comprehensive training programme collaborating with experts in the field. The response has been overwhelming with hundreds of volunteers waiting to join.

You can find out more about their work through the documentary ‘The Body Detectives’ on Channel 4 On Demand from 23rd July 2024.

Appointed as a Churchill Fellow Dave is exploring community led efforts in the field of missing and unidentified persons investigations from across the globe.

Dave will talk about the cases Locate have worked on. The highs and lows. The experiences leading an organisation entirely comprised of volunteers for the last five years and the aim for the next five.

Join us at 11am for our Q&A with Dave, after our walk and talk around the Seat Unique Stadium with fellow members and complimentary teas and biscuits at 10am.
