The 1978/79 season was our third attempt at the F. A. Vase. After being quarter Finalists in 76/77 and Semi Finalists in 77/78. We really thought that we had found our feet and that with one big push we could make it all the way this time.
On our march to the final we were to beat some really fancied sides, such as Forest Green Rovers, Windsor and Eaton, Gosport Borough, Farnborough Town and Whickham from Newcastle in the Semi Final over two legs.
The quality of these teams , made Billericay Town , who were undoubtedly the best team in the country at the time, at that level, who we were to play in the Final at Wembley were seen as a threat, and were not to be taken lightly. Unfortunately on the day we were well below our usual standard and failed.
